Netflix sent me an email this morning inviting me to share the service with friends and family. They are giving anyone who receives my forwarded email one month of free service, as long as they have Internet access, a valid payment method and sign up for Netflix. If they don’t cancel during the “free” month, they’ll be charged for the ongoing service. Gee thanks Walt.
I don’t have a problem with the Netflix on demand service. I have my television connected with my Roku and access Netflix on a daily basis. However, the “free month on me” offer is a joke. Everyone gets a free month when they sign up with Netflix.
If Netflix wants me to shill for them they should come up with something that my friends and family can’t receive anywhere else. How about 3 months free with registration? Provide a “no strings” free month. No payment method required. 30 days on me. If you like what you see you may opt-in to the service. Or pattern after DIRECTV’s referral program. When a referral signs up both parties receive a $10 monthly credit for ten months.
Referral programs include a significant reward for both the referrer and referred. The reward should be something exclusive to the referral program. Make it special so your customers are proud and excited to share your business with others.
